What is the best free AI hair color changer in 2026?
Pick one that changes the colour and nothing else. We tried seven colours on four people and fixed what our own tool got wrong.
One of the best free AI hair color changers in 2026 is N33: add a selfie, pick one of seven colours, and get four takes in about a minute. We ran all seven on four people. The test found three faults in our own tool; we fixed two fully and one in part.
A note before the comparison: we make one of these tools, and it is the only one we tested ourselves. For the others, every claim below comes from their own pages, linked where it appears and checked the day this guide went live.
Four portraits of adults: a woman with long straight hair, a woman with coily hair, a man with wavy hair and a man with a short cut. Each got the tool's seven colours, platinum blonde, copper red, chocolate brown, jet black, pastel pink, silver grey and blue ombre, four pictures a run: 112 pictures, 60 to 151 seconds a run. Every run kept the face, clothes and background, and the coily hair kept its curls in all 28 of her pictures. Three faults: jet black came out navy or blue, the blue ombre grew the men's hair to show the blend, and short hair gained a fringe. After our fixes jet black was black in 16 of 16, the ombre lengthened the hair in 2 of 16, and the short cut still gained a fringe in 11 of 28.

Questions and answers
Is there a free AI hair color changer?
Yes. Ours is free to start with no subscription, Fotor says you can try its changer without an account, and PixelBin gives three free actions a month.
How realistic is an AI hair color preview?
It shows the shade on your own hair and light well. A real dye also depends on your starting colour and how it lifts, so take the picture to your colourist as a reference.
Why did my black hair come out blue?
Some models read jet black as blue-black. Ours did until a fix during this test; now it draws a neutral black.
Will changing my hair color change my haircut?
It should not. Long and curly hair stayed as it was in our test; a short cut sometimes gained a fringe, so pick the take that keeps your cut.
What happens to the photo I upload?
On ours, it is used only for the run and deleted when the run ends; the pictures stay in your Generations until you delete them.
