What number is a buzz cut?

A buzz cut is named by the clipper guard: the number is the length left on your head, in eighths of an inch. Most buzz cuts are a #1 to a #4; a fade blends that length down to skin at the sides.

GuardLength leftHow it looks
01#0, no guardabout 1.5 mmAlmost bare, the scalp shows clearly.
02#11/8 inch, 3 mmVery short, the scalp shows through.
03#21/4 inch, 6 mmShort and even, the classic buzz.
04#33/8 inch, 10 mmSoft and dense, the scalp hidden.
05#41/2 inch, 13 mmShort but full, the longest buzz most barbers do.

What is a buzz cut filter?

A buzz cut filter shows your own face with the hair clipped short, from a single selfie. Ours draws four takes of the length or fade you pick, so you see your hairline and the shape of your head before anything is cut.

It runs in the browser with nothing to install and is part of the free AI image generator. For longer cuts, bangs and layers, use the AI Hairstyle Changer. To try a new color on your own hair instead, use the Hair Color Changer.

Questions about the buzz cut filter

Short answers about lengths, fades and your photos.

Add a selfie and pick a length. In about a minute the filter shows four takes of that buzz cut on your own face, with your face, skin and clothes kept as they are.

Yes, it is free to start. Each try uses a little energy, which refills when you share, post or invite friends, and a daily bonus tops it up. No subscription.

A #1 or #2 for a close buzz with the scalp showing, a #3 or #4 for a softer one. Try a #1 and a #3 here first; the table above has the lengths.

It can. A crew cut or a fade with a little length on top adds height, which makes a round face look longer. Try both on your selfie and compare.

Yes. Every cut works for any gender; a #3 buzz and a bleached buzz are popular female buzz cuts.

Yes. Pick Low fade or Skin fade: the sides blend down to skin while the top stays short.

It is a preview, not a promise. The length, the fade and the hairline carry over well; the real shape of your head under the hair can differ a little from the take.

No app: it runs in the browser with a free account. Your selfie is used only to draw your buzz cuts and is deleted as soon as they are done.
