We typed one instruction: remove the tourist and the woman with the coffee, and fill in the pier behind them. The lighthouse, the light and his face stayed as they were.

Can AI restore an old photo?

Yes. Add a scan or a phone photo of the print and ask for the repair and the color in one instruction. This 1962 wedding print lost its crease and scratches, gained soft natural color, and kept both faces.

How to edit a photo with AI

Three steps, and the last one repeats as often as you like.

1
Add your photo

Press + Photo and pick a clear JPG or PNG under 10 MB.

The same cabin in winter, snow on the shore and frost on the birch trees
2
Type one change

Say what to change and what stays: snow everywhere, the cabin and the angle kept.

3
Edit the result

Add the result as your new photo and ask for the next change, like a starry night.

How do I write an edit instruction that works?

Say what to change, then say what must stay. The engines change what you name, and a plain "keep her face, pose and clothes exactly the same" protects the rest.

For more, the AI photo editing prompts list shows every kind of edit next to the photo it started from, and the guide to writing AI image prompts has a section on photo edits.

Phrases that work

  • Name the thing"The grey hoodie", not "his clothes".
  • Say what stays"Keep the face, pose and light exactly the same."
  • One change a passBackground first, then the outfit, on the result.
  • Match the lightAsk for light on the person that fits the new scene.
  • Describe the fillWhen removing, say what goes in the gap.

Nano Banana or Flux Kontext: which should I pick?

Pick Flux Kontext when one thing changes and every other pixel must stay put: a removed person, an outfit, a season. Pick Nano Banana when the light or the whole picture changes: a new background, fixed lighting, an old print, a painting, a product shot.

What is an AI photo editor?

An AI photo editor changes a photo you already have from a written instruction, instead of brushes, masks and layers. Ours sends your photo and your words to Nano Banana or Flux Kontext and returns the edited picture, keeping what you did not ask to change.

It runs in the browser on a phone or a computer, with nothing to install. You need a free account to send an edit, and every result is kept in Generations.

What people use it for

  • Profile photosA better background or outfit for the photo you already like.
  • Family photosOld prints repaired, strangers removed from holiday shots.
  • Product photosA kitchen-table snapshot turned into a clean shop picture.
  • Rooms and placesAn empty room furnished, a summer view turned to snow.

Will my face stay the same?

Mostly, when you ask for it. Both engines are built to keep the person, and an instruction that ends with "keep the same facial features" holds a face well through a new background, outfit or light.

It is still a new picture, not a retouch of your pixels, so small details can drift: a freckle, an earring, a hand. The bigger the change, the more drift. If something moved that should not have, name it in the next instruction or pick another of the pictures from the same try.

Questions about the AI photo editor

What people ask before their first edit.

A tool that edits a photo you upload from a written instruction. You type "remove the man in the red cap" or "put her on a beach", and it returns the changed picture with the rest kept.

Yes. It is free to start and runs online in your browser. Edits use a little energy, which refills with a daily bonus and when you share, post or invite friends. There is no subscription to cancel.

Add your photo with + Photo, type the change in one sentence and send. Name the thing to change and say what must stay the same. Each try returns several pictures to choose from.

Yes. Name what to remove and what should fill the gap, for example "remove the woman with the coffee and continue the railing and the sea". Flux Kontext does this best.

Yes. Describe the new place and ask for the light on the person to match it, or they look pasted in. Your face, clothes and pose stay as they are.

Yes. Scan the print or photograph it flat, then ask for the cracks, creases and fading to be fixed, and for color if it is black and white. Nano Banana is the better pick for this.

A clear, well-lit JPG or PNG under 10 MB with the subject in focus. A face that is large in the frame keeps its features better than one far away.

Before it leaves your browser, your photo is turned into a plain JPEG with location and camera data removed. It is used for your edit, and your results are kept in Generations in your account.
