Prompt tips that make a difference
- • Lead with the subject, then add the setting, then the style.
- • Name the light: golden hour, neon, overcast, studio softbox.
- • Say the framing: close-up, wide shot, top-down, portrait.
- • Change one thing per retry so you learn what each word does.
- • Put any text you want in the picture in quotes, and keep it to a few words.
How to write a prompt that works
A text to image model, like Nano Banana, Google's image model behind this generator, only knows what you tell it. "A dog" gets you a generic dog on a generic background. "A scruffy terrier puppy asleep in a red wellington boot, rainy porch, soft grey light, photo" gets you a picture you had in mind. The difference is four kinds of detail: who or what is in the picture, where it is, how it looks, and what the light and colours are doing.
Write the way you would brief a photographer or an illustrator. Put the most important thing first, so it is the part the model is least likely to skip. Use concrete nouns and adjectives rather than abstract ones: "cozy" means less to a model than "warm lamp light, knitted blanket, steam from a mug". If you want a particular art style, name it plainly, such as watercolor, pixel art, oil painting or 35mm film photo.
