One line in, a whole character out

Free AI Character Generator

The AI character generator turns a one-line idea into a full character: a name, a look, a personality, a backstory and a portrait drawn to match. Describe a hero or press Surprise me, then keep the card, change it or start a chat with them.

What is an AI character generator?

An AI character generator writes a character for a story, a game or roleplay from a short idea: who they are, how they look, what they want and what they hide. Ours also draws the portrait, so the card and the picture match.

It runs in the browser, nothing to install. Every card is kept in your account until you delete it.

  • Tabletop gamesA party member, a villain or an NPC for tonight's session.
  • Stories and booksA cast for a novel, with names and wants that do not repeat.
  • OCs and roleplayAn original character with a face, ready to talk to in the chat.

What goes on a character card?

Seven fields, the same on every card, so characters from one story sit side by side. Copy the card to edit it anywhere, and redraw the portrait in any of the five styles.

Questions about the AI character generator

The short answers.

Yes. A character, the card and its portrait together, costs 10 energy. You get 50 free energy on sign-up and can claim more every day, with nothing to subscribe to.

Your idea decides who the character is, so write what matters in one line: who they are, what they want and one thing about their look. The genre picks their world, which shapes the name, the backstory and the story hooks. The art style only changes how the portrait is drawn. Press Surprise me if you have no idea yet.

Pick another of the five art styles to redraw the same character, keeping the face, hair and costume, or press New portrait for a fresh take; each portrait costs 10 energy. A different genre needs a new character. Every card stays in Generations, under Images, until you delete it.

Yes. Pick Anime as the art style and the portrait is drawn as anime, whatever the genre: fantasy, sci-fi, cyberpunk or any other.

Yes. Describe the class and race in your line, for example a halfling bard who lies about everything, and the card gives a name, a look, a backstory and hooks for your table.

Yes. Press Chat with on the card and the chat opens with the character already in it, name, voice and backstory included.

Anything sexual is refused, and so is anything sexual involving minors or explicit words like nsfw. Every character it writes is an adult. A refused request costs no energy. The first one is a warning, a second pauses your account for 5 minutes, a third for a day. Villains, monsters and battles are fine.

The card takes about 10 to 20 seconds and the portrait about a minute, longer when many people are drawing at once.
