Paraphrasing Modes Compared

A paraphraser is only useful when it changes the right thing. Each mode below changes something different, so pick the one that matches where the text is going.

What changes

Standard: Words and sentence order change; meaning, length and tone stay close.

Formal: Contractions and slang go, vocabulary gets more precise, sentences get fuller.

Simple: Long words become short ones, long sentences are split, jargon is explained.

Shorter: Repetition, filler and side remarks are cut; the key points stay.

Creative: Rhythm, imagery and word choice change more freely; facts stay fixed.

Use it for

Standard: Notes in your own words, avoiding a repeated phrase, a second version.

Formal: Reports, cover letters, emails to clients or teachers.

Simple: Instructions, explainers, readers new to the topic or the language.

Shorter: Abstracts, social posts, slides, anything with a word limit.

Creative: Marketing copy, blog intros, captions that need more life.

Why a Chat Makes a Better Paraphraser

Many paraphrasing tools give you a row of fixed buttons and a slider for how much to change. That works until your text needs something the buttons do not cover: formal but short, simple but still accurate for a science class, creative but without touching the product name. In the chat you describe that in one sentence, and the AI follows it.

You can also combine modes. Ask for a formal paraphrase first, then say "now make it 20% shorter" and the second pass works on the first. If one phrase must stay as it is, a quote, a legal term or a brand name, say so and it is kept word for word.

The free models are GPT-5.6 Luna, Claude Haiku 4.5 and Grok 4.5, and they write differently. If one version sounds stiff, switch the model and send the same request again; comparing two paraphrases side by side is often the fastest way to find the wording you want. When the text is long or subtle, a larger model such as Claude Sonnet 5 is available with an account for 2 energy per message.

How do you know a paraphrase is good? Read it without the original next to it. It should make sense on its own, say everything the source said, and sound like the rest of your writing. Then put the two side by side: if half the phrases are still the same, or the order of ideas has not moved, ask for a stronger change. If a number, a name or a qualifier such as "most" or "may" has changed, point it out and ask for a fix.

Paraphrasing keeps the meaning and changes the wording. If just one line is the problem, the sentence rewriter offers several versions of it to choose from; if the whole text needs a new job, such as a different audience or format, go to the AI rewriter.

There is nothing to paraphrase until a text exists. If you only have an idea or a few notes, the AI writer turns them into a first draft, and you can paraphrase from there.

Paraphrasing and Plagiarism

Paraphrasing means saying what a source says in your own words and sentence structure. It is a normal and useful skill: it shows you understood the idea, and it lets you fit someone else's point into your own writing. But the idea still belongs to its author. A paraphrase of someone else's work needs a citation, just like a direct quote does. New wording does not make an idea yours.

So use the paraphraser to understand and restate, then cite where the idea came from. For school work, check your teacher's or your university's rules on AI help before you use any AI tool; they differ from one course to the next.

N33 does not check plagiarism and does not detect AI text, and it does not promise that a paraphrase will pass any checker. What it does is rewrite the text the way you ask. Keep the original source open next to the result and compare them: a good paraphrase changes the words and the structure, keeps the meaning, and adds nothing the source did not say.

How to Paraphrase a Text with AI

Four steps, most of them under a minute.

1
Pick a mode

Tap Standard, Formal, Simple, Shorter or Creative above. The instruction fills the box and waits for your text.

2
Paste the text

Add the passage after the instruction. Add anything that must not change, such as names, numbers or a quoted line.

3
Send and read

The paraphrase arrives in seconds. Read it against the original and check that no fact moved or disappeared.

4
Adjust in the same chat

Ask for a shorter or plainer version, another model's take, or three alternatives for one sentence.

Tips for a better paraphrase

  • • Say who will read it: a teacher, a client, a friend.
  • • Give a target length in words if it matters.
  • • Paste one section at a time for long documents.
  • • Ask what changed if you want to learn from the rewrite.

Paraphrasing Tool FAQ

Questions people ask about paraphrasing with AI.

Yes, to start. GPT-5.6 Luna, Claude Haiku 4.5 and Grok 4.5 paraphrase for free, and guests have a daily limit. A new account gets 50 energy and can claim 10 a day, which you can spend on larger models such as Claude Sonnet 5 (2 energy per message).

Yes. Paste text in Spanish, German, French or another language and ask for a paraphrase in the same language. You can also ask it to paraphrase and translate in one step.

Yes, GPT models paraphrase when you tell them how the new version should differ. On N33, GPT-5.6 Luna does it for free, and you can put its version next to Claude Haiku 4.5's or Grok 4.5's in the same window.

The one that lets you say what should change. Fixed-mode tools are quick for simple jobs; a chat handles mixed requests such as "formal and 30% shorter, keep the product names" and lets you revise until the text is right.

Restating what a text says in different words and sentence structure while keeping its meaning. Unlike a summary, a paraphrase keeps roughly the same detail; unlike a quote, it does not keep the original wording.

Using the tool is not plagiarism in itself. Presenting someone else's idea as your own is, whatever words you use. Cite the source of any idea you paraphrase, and follow your school's or employer's rules on AI help.

Changing the meaning, dropping a qualifier such as "some" or "may", adding claims the source does not make, swapping only a few words while keeping the structure, and leaving out the citation.

We cannot tell you what any checker will flag, and N33 does not check for AI text or plagiarism. Use the paraphraser to understand and restate sources, cite them, and follow your course's policy on AI tools.
