How do you turn a script into a video with AI?

Write a short script, strip the stage notes, let an AI presenter read it, and cut in a generated scene for each point. We made a 28-second video this way.

One of the easiest free ways to turn a script into a video with AI is N33: write the script with a free chat model, paste it into the AI avatar video generator, and a presenter reads it on camera in a few minutes. For the moments a talking head cannot show, generate short scenes from single lines of the script and cut them in. That is how we made the 28-second video below, from a script to a finished clip.

What we measured ourselves
2026-10-23 → 2026-10-23
28seconds of finished video from a 425-character script: one AI presenter and three generated scenes

The script is a 30-second short about winter plant care that Grok 4.5 wrote in our free chat on 9 October, with its bracketed on-screen cues taken out: 79 words. The avatar video was ready after 180 seconds and runs 28 seconds, about 168 words a minute. Three 5-second scenes, one per tip, took 75 to 285 seconds each. We cut the scenes over the presenter at the pauses between tips in a video editor; N33 gives you the parts, not the final edit. The presenter video carries an AI-generated label, and we kept one on the final cut.

How do you turn a script into a video with AI, step by step?

Write a short script for the length you want, strip the stage notes, and paste the spoken words into an avatar video generator with a presenter and a voice. Then generate a short scene for each point and cut them over the presenter.
From a script to a video, step by step
StepWhat to doIn our test
Write the scriptAsk for a hook, three points and an ending, at the length you needA free chat model wrote a 30-second short
Clean it upRemove bracketed cues and scene notes, or the presenter reads them aloudFour on-screen cues taken out
Pick a presenter and voiceMatch the voice to the language of the script; a calm, selfie-style presenter looks most naturalA selfie-style presenter, an American English voice
Generate the talking videoPaste the spoken words and waitReady in under three minutes
Add scenesOne short scene per point, written from that line of the scriptThree five-second scenes
Cut it togetherLay the scenes over the presenter at the pausesDone in a video editor

The cleanup step is the one people skip. A script written for an editor has cues like [WATER LESS] or [B-roll: close-up], and an avatar reads every character you paste. Keep those notes, but in a second copy: they are exactly the prompts for your scenes. Our scene for the first tip came from the line "Check the soil first", turned into a close-up of a finger in the soil and a little water.

How long should a script be for an AI video?

Count on roughly 150 to 170 spoken words a minute. A 30-second short is about 80 words, a one-minute explainer about 160. Our avatar generator reads up to 900 characters, about a minute, in one video.

Our presenter read 425 characters in 28 seconds; a slower voice setting stretches it.

What are the ways to make a video from a script with AI?

Three. A presenter avatar reads the script on camera. A stock-footage tool matches each line with library clips. A video model generates new scenes from the lines. Most good videos mix two of them.

What is the best AI for script to video?

It depends on the way you choose. Synthesia and HeyGen are built around presenters, Pictory around stock footage, and InVideo around generated video. Each handles the free part differently: a watermark, a short trial or nothing at all.

We make one of these tools, so read the table with that in mind: we tested only our own, and every figure for the others comes from their own pricing pages, linked where it appears and checked the day this guide went live.

Can AI write the script and make the talking-head video too?

Yes, in two steps. A chat model writes the script, and an avatar generator turns it into a presenter reading it. Read the script aloud once before you paste it: a line that looks fine can sound stiff.

To try it, start with our AI script generator, then paste the spoken lines into the AI avatar video generator. For the scenes, our guide to writing AI video prompts shows how to turn one line into a shot.

Questions and answers

Can I turn a script into a video with AI for free?

Yes, for a first video. Our free account's starting energy covers one avatar video, and the script itself comes from the free chat.

Can I make a video from a script without showing my face?

Yes. An AI presenter reads it for you, or you skip the presenter and use generated scenes with a voiceover.

Which languages can the AI presenter speak?

It speaks the language the script is written in. Pick a voice and accent made for that language.

How is this different from Pictory?

Pictory matches your lines with stock clips. An avatar puts a presenter on camera, and generated scenes show exactly what each line says.

Which AI is best for writing video scripts?

Any good chat model writes a solid first draft. Run the same brief on two models and keep the voice that fits your channel.
